Today is a sad day at the Nalty Household as we had to euthanize out lovable pup Kirby.

It may seem strange to see me call Kirby, our lovable lab/border collie, my second all-time favorite dog; That is until you read about our former pup Alex, the greatest dog in the world.

This is a couple of days late, but I wanted  to get out a quick update on my youngest son.

We are home and doing well.

We are just praying and waiting for final pathology reports, but it doesn’t look like cancer. The Doctors called it a  mycobacterium that lives in the soil. It’s actually part of the same strain that causes Tuberculosis. They think my son probably ingested it when playing outside.

One interesting tidbit? The chances on my son getting this bacteria was less then his chances on having cancer.

Things look good moving forward. The doctors think they were able to remove all of the tumor and that this will hopefully solve the issue with the seven swollen lymph nodes on his neck as well.

We appreciate everyone’s prayers. This is truly a great Christmas gift.

Chris

UPDATE:

On a side note. I am acquaintances with Mary Allen. I meet her through Twitter and follow her through Facebook as well. The other day she sent out a request for messages in the sand she could write from her vacation in Tortola.

I thought it would be fun to send in a request. Here’s what she just sent me:

How cool is that. From around the world we had people thinking and praying for #3, and our prayers were being answered. Thanks Mary!

NOTE: I did not get this published before the fact, but wanted to get the details out there none-the-less. I back dated it to make sense chronologically.

Our youngest son of three boys will be 3 on the 20th. Tomorrow afternoon (Monday, the 15th) he is going into surgery to remove a growth/tumor on his left parotid gland. This gland is located on the face below the ear and next to the cheek.

What ever it is in there is also causing his lymph nodes in his neck to swell up.

It could be a laundry list of items causing this, but of course we pray it isn’t cancer.

The surgery starts around 3:00 PM CST and will last for at least two hours. If you could pray specifically the God guides the doctors, we have a good outcome, and that my wife has some peace through this I would be very grateful.

Sincerely,
Chris

I knew this day was coming. In fact, I’ve known this day was coming for at least eight months. This afternoon, we had to euthanise our beloved pure bred female black Labrador Retriever, Alex. (Kennel Name Alexandria Lexxus).

Our dog Alex suns herself of a warm day.

Our dog Alex suns herself of a warm day.

Alexandria Lexxus was the best dog I’ve ever had. Period.

She had cancer. The reality is, she was otherwise healthy. Her hips were good, she was as playful as ever, she was still the same goofball today as she was when we adopted her as a two-year-old pup in March of 1998. Unfortunately, the cancer caused too many complications that there wasn’t anything else we could do. It’s not without trying though.

About 18 months ago, she had a mastectomy to remove the cancer from her breast. We knew the Doctor might not be able to get all the cancer out. When another tumor appeared about eight or nine months ago, we knew that was the beginning of the end. About eight weeks ago that tumor broke the skin on her stomach and began weeping. Four weeks later when she couldn’t keep her food down we knew the end was near. I’ve always called her “Daddy’s girl.” Now Daddy’s girl was sick and we couldn’t do anything to help her.

Welcome! Sorta

Hey all!

Welcome to the sorta first installement of Life in the sticks. Musings of a city boy gone country.

If I was to go back and look for it, I know that there is an old Blogger blog somewhere taking up electrons. I also have a self-rolled blog in archive on my NAS. My point? I’ve tried this before, and I don’t have a very good track record to boot.

We’re going to change all of that…I promise. Promise is such a strong word. How about try? Maybe.
